The objective of this study was to prepare a copper-coated rubber surface using cold spray technology with improved virucidal and antimicrobial properties fight against highly transmissible viruses bacteria. A successful coating produced irregular-shaped pure Cu powder on an escalator handrail rubber. particles the deposited coatings (single double pass) were characterized in terms particle morphology size distribution, coat/substrate cross-section properties. bonding between surfaces purely mechanical interlocking. penetration depth within increases number depositions pass. coated tested utilizing surrogates for SARS-CoV-2: HCoV-229E, seasonal human coronavirus, baculovirus, high-titer enveloped insect cell virus. double-pass showed significant baculovirus inactivation relative bare control after 2-h (approximately 1.7-log) 4-h 6.2-log), while exposure reduced HCoV-229E titer below limit detection. similar microbial test performed E. coli, showing 4-log reduction These promising results open new application health sector.
